THE PROBLEM
Bantaba had initially created their landing page in a week, handling everything from writing content to designing and coding the website. However, despite their best efforts, the result was a mediocre-looking page that failed to convey what Bantaba is about. As a result, Bantaba asked me to help improve the landing page and clarify their message to potential customers.
USER FEEDBACK
To figure out what needed to be improved, I analysed feedback Bantaba had received from their users. As we dug into the feedback, we realized that there were several key issues that needed to be addressed in order to improve Bantaba's landing page.
Some of the issues were:
- Users didn’t fully understand what kind of service Bantaba provided
- One of Bantaba’s target groups didn’t see what value they’d get from using Bantaba
- Users weren’t sure how much the service cost
- It didn’t look trustworthy
- The landing page was crowded
BRAINSTORMING
Collaborating closely with the content strategist and CEO, we dove into brainstorming sessions to generate fresh ideas for the new landing page. I shared insights I had gathered from analyzing user feedback to help guide our direction, and we decided to prioritise making Bantaba's service clear.
Wireframing
Once we were satisfied and knew what we wanted to include, I made a wireframe while the content strategist wrote all of the content. I used the websites I had looked at before as inspiration when I puzzled together boxes that’d represent the future content.
I hadn’t been aware Bantaba was an ancient word meaning
‘meeting underneath a tree’ and refers to a
traditional tree-sanctuary where African elders gather
to make important decisions. Including this would be a
concrete way of telling the user that we’re here to help
them meet - under the tree of Bantaba - to support each
other and grow.
For this, I ended up putting together an illustration in
Figma. I combined some free assets that I edited and
some that I drew myself.
Difficulties
As is often the case with startups, time was of the
essence when we were working on Bantaba's landing page. In
order to release it as quickly as possible, our front end
developer started coding the page immediately based on my
initial design. This meant that I had to be quick with my
designs and couldn't make any changes once the coding had
started.
Although this approach worked well for our timeline, it
made iterating and refining the design more difficult.
Moving forward, I hope that we can allocate more time to
the design process to ensure that we can refine and
improve our work before it's released to the public. I
understand though that this is a challenge that many
startups face, and I'm committed to finding creative
solutions to ensure that we can balance speed with
quality.
... and the result?
Check it out live at Bantaba's website!
We started with an average-looking landing page that left users confused about what Bantaba offered, and ended up with a stunning landing page which also contained an FAQ and blog.
One of the things I loved about the project was the opportunity to include an illustration that reflected Bantaba's name, which in short means 'meeting underneath a tree.' I think this helped to make the page more personable and inviting to users, making it clear that Bantaba is there to support them in their journey of growth and development.
Although we had some time constraints, we managed to deliver a quality landing page that addressed the users' needs. I learned a lot about the importance of collaboration, understanding user feedback, and the challenges that come with working with tight deadlines. All in all, I'm proud of what we achieved together, and I hope the new landing page helps Bantaba's users understand the services they provide better.
